All India Anna Dravida Munnethra Kazhagam supremo Jayalalithaa on Tuesday described the ruling Dravida Munnethra Kazhagam's win in the by-election to the Tamil Nadu Assembly from Madurai Central as 'an artificial victory achieved through all sorts of irregularities".

DMK's victory was an expected one. The AIADMK had faced bigger defeats in the past and had recovered to achieve great victories, she said in a statement in Chennai reacting to the victory of DMK's Ghouse Basha by an impressive margin.

"Victory and defeat are not permanent in politics and DMK's fake victory achieved through fraudulent means is not permanent. The election result is not a true reflection of the people's opinion", she said in a statement.

"A democratic opportunity to show the true wishes and mood of the people would arrive. People's power will win on that day. AIADMK will come back to power as per the wish of the people," she said.

Actor Vijaykanth, leader of DMDK, which came very close behind the AIADMK, said his party had proved that it was a growing one by securing more votes than in the assembly elections held in May.

"The DMK's success is a temporary one as it was achieved through money, muscle power and misuse of official machinery. The party also faced the elections in the company of many parties including casteist ones," he charged.

The DMDK did not resort to unethical practices like bribing or threatening the voters and its performance showed the confidence placed on it by the people.

"A defeat earned through decent means is glorious than a victory achieved through wrong means," he said adding that he would continue to practice "ethical politics" to put an end to "unethical politics".
