Seven more debt-ridden farmers, including a woman, have committed suicide in Vidarbha region during the last two days till Friday morning, according to a non-governmental organisation working for the cause of the farmers.
Two of them were from Amravati district, one each from Bundala, Yavatmal, Washim, Akola and Chandrapur district, Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti said in a release on Friday.
They were identified as Ganesh Yadgiri of Parkhed (Buldana), Ganesh Thakur of Khartalegaon (Amravati), Narmadabai Chavan of Jam (Akola), Sanjay Jirapure of Kherda (Washim), Devkibai Rathod of Warandali (Yavatmal), Pundlikrao Gaiki of Dongarwadi (Amravati) and Bhaurao Dhengre of Sindoor (Chandrapur).
About 42 farmers have committed suicide this month, they claimed, adding that the figure of suicides by farmers since Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the region on July 1 has risen to 367.
Since June 2005, it has touched 975, the Samiti added.
