The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken serious note of forcible conversion of Scheduled Castes and directed the district administration to register cases against those guilty in the matter.

During a hearing in New Delhi on Thursday, the NCSC directed Inspector General of Police (Ujjain) Anil Kumar and District Collector Neeraj Mandloi to register a case against missionary worker Jagdish Masih under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, for forcibly converting SCs and assaulting them.

NCSC member Phoolchand Verma informed that the NCSC also directed to register case against the owner of the house, where conversions were being carried out since the past six months.

Besides, it directed that action be taken against concerned police officials for not registering a case in this regard and sought a report of actions taken within a month. Earlier, on the basis of a complaint, the NCSC had issued summons to the IG and the Collector directing them to appear before it.
