President of Bharatiya Jan Shakti Uma Bharti and former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana courted arrest at the Parliament police station along with hundreds of their supporters demanding the hanging of Mohammed Afzal Guru, who has been sentenced to death by the trial court for his role in the December 13, 2001, Parliament attack.
She also demanded the dismissal of Gulam Nabi Azad, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, who had asked for clemency for Afzal keeping in mind the prevailing circumstances in the Valley where violent protests are being held against the court order to hang Afzal on October 20.
"We demand that the chief minister should be removed from his post forthwith and the government should register a criminal case against him and investigate the matter," she said.
She also lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for claiming moral ground on this matter.
"The decision to go to Kandahar and release terrorists like Masood Azhar was taken by a handful of people and we saw Jaswant Singh on television. Later he told me that he could not help him. I told him that he should have resigned rather than going there," she said.
She demanded that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Kishenchand Advani should come on the streets to fight those who are demanding clemency for Afzal.
