Declining to attribute political or any other motive to the violence that erupted in various parts of the state over alleged descreation of B R Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil said on Thursday it will not be correct to state if the violence was planned in advance.

"Till we probe the issue, we cannot say whether the incidents including burning of the Deccan Queen train near Ulhasnagar were planned in advance," he told reporters.

Police have taken effective measures to tackle law and order situation in the state in the wake of the violent protests in the last two days, Patil, who also holds the home portfolio, said.

"Had it not been for the appropriate actions taken by the police, damage to life and property during the incidents of violence would have been much more," Patil said.
