Bird flu was detected in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday prompting government to declare culling of 6,637 birds in Ichhapur town in Burhanpur district.
Culling in 23 villages within a 10-km radius of Ichhapur, which is barely 5 km from the infected area in Jalgaon district in Maharashtra, will start tomorrow, state Animal Husbandry Minister Ramakant Tiwari told reporters.
Transportation of poultry products and movement of people were banned in the area as prohibitory orders under Section 144 clamped following Centre's confirmation of avian flu, he said.
The Centre had instructed to cull all birds in the surveillance zone after samples sent to city-based High Security Animal Disease Laboratory tested positive, he added.
