India and Bangladesh will hold Home Secretary level talks starting Thursday, following the recent skirmishes between border guards of both countries. While New Delhi is expected to state its concerns about illegal movement of people across the border, Bangladeshi media reports have speculated that an extradition treaty could be signed between the two nations.
At an earlier round of talks, a draft extradition treaty had been readied but no further action was taken.
Disputed enclaves and border fencing will also be discussed. New Delhi has been irked by continued cross-border activities like infiltration and smuggling, which often lead to run-ins between the Border Security Force and the Bangladesh Rifles. On August 9-10, three women were killed in one such incident.
An extradition treaty, if signed, would help both nations in maintaining cross-border relations.
