Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has reiterated his country's commitment to continue contributing positively towards peace and harmony in the region keeping in view its geo-strategic location.
Chairing the 59th Formation Commanders Conference of the army at the garrison town of Rawalpindi Monday, General Musharraf said, "With progressive approach to develop its potential, Pakistan can play a significant role and become an important economic hub and an energy corridor."
Talking about internal security, he lauded the work done by the army, paramilitary, intelligence agencies and the other governmental departments in combating terrorism in tribal areas, Balochistan, and other parts of the country.
"No one will be allowed to inflict damage to national assets and the writ of the government will be established at all costs," he added.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz emphasised the need for credible defence.
"Balance of power is a pre-requisite for peace and it is achieved through strength while weakness invites aggression, hence conventional and non-conventional deterrence will be maintained," he said adding, all possible resources will be employed for this purpose.
General Musharraf appreciated the high state of operational preparedness, training, efficiency and vigilant army despite its employment on multifarious tasks like combating terrorism, disaster management and internal security duties.
