The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party has promised reservation in jobs for the minorities, if the Democratic Progressive Alliance came to power in Tamil Nadu in the 2006 assembly polls.

Recalling that he was instrumental in providing reservation to the minorities under the backward classes quota, DMK President M Karunanidhi said in Chennai on Sunday that his party always stood by the minorities.

The DMK did not make any promises keeping polls in mind, he said at an Iftar party, organised by Tamil Maanila National League.

Reservation would be provided to both Muslims and Christians and even if the DMK-led DPA did not come to power, it would fight for minority rights, Karunanidhi added.
