Extradited gangster Abu Salem has three Indian and a Pakistani passport, while wife Monica Bedi has two Indian passports, Central Bureau of Investigation sources said Tuesday adding that interestingly none of them tried to procure passports using their true names.
"The passports possessed by Salem and Monica are genuine, but they have been procured using false information," CBI sources said.
Salem procured three passports in India even though he was at large, enjoying the cosy comforts of the middle-east and Europe. He acquired a passport in the name of Akil Ahmed Azmi from Lucknow, Danish Baig from Bhopal and Ramin Malik from Hyderabad, sources said.
He was found in possession of a Pakistani passport in the name of Arsalem Mohsin Ali, when he was arrested in Portugal, but CBI sources said they are not aware if there was a case of forgery against Salem in Pakistan.
Monica, on other hand, acquired passport in the name of Fauzia Kamal from Bhopal and Sana Malik Kamal from Hyderabad.
She is presently in judicial custody in Hyderabad in connection with the passport forgery case there.
CBI sources said they have collected records of all documents related to the above passports and are investigating the role of people involved in assisting Salem and Monica.
"We have not interrogated him yet on why he did not acquire passports in genuine names, but we might tackle the subject sometime," CBI sources said.
