Stepping up the offensive on the Volcker committee report, National Democratic Alliance leaders Monday met President A P J Abdul Kalam and urged him to advise Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to drop External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh from the Union Cabinet.

The delegation, led by NDA covener George Fernandes and leader of opposition Lal Kishenchand Advani, also requested the President to advise Dr Singh to ensure that lawful investigations into the alleged commission of offences is ordered forthwith.

Natwar Singh has been named as a 'non-contractual beneficiary' by the Volcker Committee report that probed corruption in Iraq's corrupt oil for-food programme.

Reacting to the appointment of the Virendra Dayal committee on Sunday night, the party had said that it lacked the jurisdiction and authority to collect evidence from abroad.
