Train services in Andhra Pradesh continued to be affected for the second consecutive day with the South Central Railways rescheduling, diverting or cancelling eight major trains on Monday.
A SCR spokesman said train services were affected by breaches to tracks between Ghanpur and Nashkal stations in the Secunderabad-Kazipet section.
Restoration work is on full swing on the 180 mt track that was washed away between the Ghanpur and Kazipet stations in Warangal district on Saturday night.
Five trains were cancelled and 16 trains were rescheduled or diverted on Sunday, the SCR announced. It further said that it had cancelled the Secunderabad-Warangal passenger train and partially cancelled three other trains -- the Secunderabad-Vijayawada Satavahana Express, the Guntur-Secunderabad Golconda Express and the Secunderabad Vijayawada Express.
The Coimbatore-Hazrat Nizamuddin Kongu has been diverted to run via Secunderabad, Nizamabad, Manmad and Itarsi. The Hyderabad-Chennai Charminar Express, Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam Godavari Express and the Secunderabad-Rajendra Nagar (Patna) Bi-weekly Express have been rescheduled.
Minister for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation Dharmana Prasada Rao told newsmen in Hyderabad that the moderate to heavy rains for three days (July 8 to 10), caused by the southwest monsoon and the depression in the Bay of Bengal, had wreaked havoc in the state, particularly in nine of the 10 districts in the Telangana region.
Six of these districts received rainfall ranging between 10 to 14 cms in 48 hours and the remaining three districts recorded 5 to 9 cm rainfall.
The death toll rose to 14 with three deaths being reported in Nizamabad and Nalgonda districts, the minister said.
He announced that the families of the deceased would get an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and an equal amount under the Apathbandu scheme. They would also get Rs 5,000 under the National Family Benefit Scheme.
Stating that 739 houses were fully damaged and 1,850 houses were partly damaged in five districts, Rao said the government was disbursing an ex-gratia of Rs 1,500 for a fully damaged house and Rs 750 for a partly damaged house, apart from Rs 750 for purchase of utensils and clothes to the affected families.
Irrigation and Panchayat Raj Departments were attending to repairs in the 59 tanks, which were damaged due to heavy rains.
The revenue authorities had accommodated 731 families in 10 relief camps in three districts and provided them free food, drinking water and medicines.
District collectors have been asked to furnish details of the damage caused to the crops.
