Police suspect land dispute in priest's murder

Suspecting land dispute as a possible motive in Thursday's murder of Srinivas Achar, a manager of the Uttaradhi Mutt in Kanchipram, the police on Friday questioned some farmers who work on the mutt's land in Chinna Kanchipuram.

The mutt's 40-year-old manager was found dead on Thursday morning.

"We have started interrogating farmers who work in Tenampakkam and Nazerathpet," a senior police officer said. "We have also questioned people who live near the mutt," he added.

Srinivas Achar was knived to death and found lying in a pool of blood at the mutt.

The Uttaradhi Mutt is located behind the Varadaraja Perumal temple, whose manager Sankararaman was murdered on September 3, 2004.

The murder led to the arrest of Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and his deputy, Jayendra Saraswati.
