Justice P B Sawant Commission, which probed corruption charges levelled by anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare in 2003 against four ministers in the then Maharashtra government, submitted its report to the state government on Wednesday.
The government will analyse the 372-page-report and take a decision on whether to make the report public or not, Chief Secretary Prem Kumar told reporters in Mumbai.
The one-man commission was set up by the state government on September one, 2003.
Hazare had accused Suresh Jain, Nawab Malik, Vijaykumar Gavit and Padamsinh Patil of being corrupt. In return, the ministers accused Hazare of corruption.
Though the initial tenure of the commission was only three months, it was extended from time to time.
The probe was completed in a span of one-and-a-half years and it involved examination of 119 witnesses. Over 800 documents of about 40,000 pages were also referred to during the probe.
The recommendations of the commission were not binding on the government, Prem Kumar said.
On the non-cooperation of Suresh Jain in the probe, commission secretary G T Watgoankar, who submitted the report, said the commission had imposed a fine of Rs 500 on Jain.
But the matter was taken up by the high court and it was now up to the court to decide on the issue.
