Karnataka government will take stringent measures to ban 'live bands' in the state, Chief Minister Dharam Singh announced in the Legislative Council on Thursday.
"There is no second opinion that live bands are having a negative impact and spoiling the younger generation," he said during Question Hour in the House.
"It has come to the government's notice that live bands are being played in restaurants, bars and public entertainment places in the name of public amusement," he said.
"Though under the present rules there is no provision to ban live bands and discotheques, by incorporating necessary amendments, strict measures will be taken to curb the menace, the chief minister said.
Live bands are providing "indirect support to criminals and in the name of employing bouncers to check eve-teasing and maintain order, rowdies are being encouraged," he said.
