Jayalalithaa's ex-foster son charged with attempt to murder

A sessions court on Thursday framed charges against V N Sudhakaran, disowned foster son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, his father Vivekanandan and four others charged with attempt to murder, among other things.

Framing the charges after all the accused pleaded not guilty, Additional Sessions Judge T Ramasamy posted the case for hearing on December 23.

According to the prosecution, Sudhakaran and the others assaulted Gopu Sudhir, the general secretary of 'Chinna MGR Welfare Association' on June 13, 2001, for allegedly misappropriating the association's funds.

Sudhir was allegedly taken from his residence to Sudhakaran's and beaten up, after he refused to divulge where he had kept the money, the chargesheet stated.

The general secretary's personal assistant was assaulted and his car damaged, it said. Sudhir was also, allegedly, threatened at gun point.

Apart from being charged under section 307 IPC (attempt to murder), the accused have also been booked under the Arms Act and for trespass.  Others against whom charges were framed were S R Bhaskaran, Moinuddin, Suresh and T Baskaran.
