Ahead of his visit to Afghanistan, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday called on President A P J Abdul Kalam and discussed various national and international issues.

The meeting, which lasted about half-an-hour, was part of the regular interactions between the two leaders, a Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman said.

Dr Singh leaves New Delhi on Sunday on a two-day visit to Afghanistan, the first by an Indian prime minister in 29
