The cloud cover over Mumbai on Tuesday has reduced considerably and its residents are likely to have some respite from the incessant rain.
The Santa Cruz observatory of the Indian Meteorological Department in Mumbai measured the rainfall in the suburbs at 8:30 am on Tuesday to be 15 cm; the Colaba observatory measured about 9 cm of rainfall in the city proper.
This, weathermen say, is quite usual in the monsoon.
Additional Director General of Meteorology S R Kalsi told rediff.com: " Satellite pictures show some clouds over Mumbai but they have reduced considerably. It is good news for Mumbai.
"There is a lot of improvement in the weather," Kalsi added.
He forecast light to moderate showers with isolated heavy rainfall in the Konkan, including Mumbai.
In the next two days, he said, there will be clouds over the northern Bay of Bengal. This will create a low pressure area and strengthen the monsoon.

However, stormy wind conditions persist.
The meteorological office in Mumbai said gusty winds -- about 50 km per hour -- will continue to affect the city.
Since the seas will continue to be rough to very rough, the Met office has warned fishermen not to venture out into the ocean.
