Doctors from Nair Hospital are out on the streets in Kalina, arguably one of the worst-affected areas in Mumbai in the recent rains.
Even as they wait for whoever needs their help, they are distributing pamphlets that describe the diseases one needs to be aware of in these extraordinary circumstances.
These include waterborne diseases like malaria, dengue and gastroenteritis. They also expect many people to suffer from common cold and fever.
They have also issued a warning about leptostirisis -- which is caused by contact with contaminated flood water. The symptoms include fever, body ache, yellowish discolouration of eyes or redness of eyes. In case you are suffering from these symptoms, please contact your nearest doctor.
At the moment, the Nair Hospital van is parked at Kalina bus stop, opposite Geeta Vihar hotel.
