Raja Ramanna cremated

The mortal remains of eminent nuclear scientist Dr Raja Ramanna were cremated in Mumbai on Friday.

Dr Ramanna's body was taken to the Shivaji Park electric crematorium from his son Shyam's Worli residence and the last rites were performed at around 1545 IST.

Among those who attended the funeral included former chairmen of the Atomic Energy Commission H N Sethna and P K Iyengar, Chairman, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, S K Jain and Chairman, Heavy Water Board, S C Hiremat.

Dr Ramanna, a stalwart of India's nuclear programme who was associated with the country's first nuclear test in 1974, died on Thursday of intestine problem.

He was 79 and is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
