Sharmila Shanbag, wanted by the Mumbai police in connection with a cheating case, was extradited from Germany on Tuesday night.
She was produced before a magistrate on Wednesday and remanded to police custody for 14 days.
Shanbag used to work in her uncle Vinayak Matkarni's mercantile firm. She allegedly cheated her uncle and sold his property, worth Rs 48 lakh, seven years ago.
She got married and left for the US in 1997 with her husband.
Matkarni registered a complaint against her in 1998.
In 2000, Interpol had issued a red corner notice against her.
Three months ago she was arrested at the Munich airport when she was going back to the US.
Two Mumbai police officials -- Inspector Nagnath Vagude and Sub-Inspector Aruna Jagtap -- went to Germany on July 27, 2004, to take her custody and bring her back.
It is believed that she is a first female to be extradited from Germany after the signing of the Indo-German extradition treaty.
