The Supreme Court on Tuesday approved an action plan to distribute Rs 1567 crore among the over 5.72 lakh victims of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy that claimed over 15000 lives.

A Bench comprising Justice Shivaraj V Patil and Justice B N Srikrishna approved the welfare commissioner's action plan placed before the court and directed that the money be disbursed on "pro rata basis" from November 15.
The court agreed with the welfare commissioner's proposal to keep Rs 60 crore aside for those victims whose claims are still in various stages of adjudication.
