A 28-year-old farmer, faced with debt following crop failure, committed suicide at Merikapadu village in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur district on Monday, official sources said.
K Sriram Reddy ended his life after he was unable to pay back the money he had borrowed for agricultural purposes, they said.
"Reddy had borrowed Rs 50,000 for cultivation of cotton on six acres of land. However, when the crop failed he was unable to pay back the amount and distressed over it he ended his life by consuming pesticides," a source said.
Reddy is survived by his wife, a son (8) and daughter (5).
