Stamp scam: CBI arrests Tamil Nadu DIG

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday conducted raids at the residences of several senior police and insurance officials and arrested four persons, including a deputy inspector general of the Tamil Nadu police, for helping stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi in spreading his network.

DIG A P Muhammad Ali, Assistant Commissioner of Police Shankar and LIC'sĀ administrative official Ramaswamy were among those arrested.

Tamil Nadu is the second state where the police has come under a cloud in the stamps scam. Several top officials in Maharashtra are in jail for their role in assisting Telgi in his trade.
