Several parts of Maharashtra, except Mumbai and Vidarbha, and Goa were affected by a major power failure on Thursday afternoon.
The power failure occurred after the Chandrapur-Koradi line burst at around 1420 IST resulting in tripping of almost all the power stations in the state, Maharashtra State Electricity Board officials said in Mumbai.
Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd officials said the failure occurred due to a circuit breaker blast on the 400 KV line, causing disturbance in the grid and leading to power failure.
Except two generating sets each at Khaparkheda and Koradi, thermal power stations of MSEB at Chandrapur, Parali, Bhusaval, Nashik, the gas power station at Uran and hydro station at Koyna tripped.
Sources said the tripping was not due to overdrawing of power by any other state but due to an internal problem.
The MSEB officials are carrying out restoration work.
Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, part of the western grid, were unaffected while power supply in Goa has been since restored.
