In a fit of rage, two sisters allegedly shot dead each other's husbands in suburban Juhu following some monetary dispute.

Farida Ahmed and Gajala Firoz, the two sisters who shot dead each other's husbands last night, have been arrested and produced this afternoon in a local court, which remanded them to police custody till August 25.

According to sources, they told the police that monetary dispute between their respective husbands ignited arguments ending up in the shoot-out.

"Both families are financially strong and had some dispute going on. They also used to have frequent fights among themselves," Deputy Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta said.

Farida and Gajala are half-sisters with their mother being a Christian, while Farida's father was a Russian, and Gajala's father a Muslim, sources said.

"Due to this diversity in their family tree, inter-caste marriage of Gajala would be the last thing for the dispute between the two families," Gupta said.

Shahid Ahmed (Farida's husband) and Firoz Jadhav (Gajala's husband) had a couple of drinks at the former's
residence in Juhu last night, sources said.

After the drinks, an argument broke out between the two men, with Farida and Gajala taking sides of their respective husband, sources said.

Later, Farida brought the Smith & Wesson pistol of her husband and shot at Firoz, while in retaliation, Gajala snatched the weapon from her sister and shot at Shahid, the sources added.

The episode was witnessed by five children of Farida and Shahid, who are still deeply frightened to tell anything to the police.

After the shoot out, Farida and Gajala came to senses and rushed the two injured men to Cooper Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival, police said.

"During preliminary interrogation, the two women tried to save themselves by painting picture as if the two men died after firing shots at each other, but later they confessed to
the crime," Gupta said.

Meanwhile, police has learnt that deceased Firoz Jadhav had committed several crimes in home town Solapur.
