Breaking the deadlock over admissions to private medical colleges, the Maharashtra government on Monday approved a formula reserving 25 per cent seats for the weaker sections of the society and giving college managements control over 25 per cent. The rest will be in the general category.
The fees across all these categories will range between Rs 25,000 and Rs 750,000.
After a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said concession in fees would be made available for all seats in the weaker sections category and up to 46 per cent seats in the general category will get this advantage.
He said bank loans would be given to others at low interest rates.
All seats, except the 25 per cent under management quota, would be filled through a test conducted by the state government, he added.
The fees for the weaker section seats will be Rs 25,000 and Rs 150,000 for the general category.
Fees for management quota seats will be roughly five times of that in the general category.
