Chittoor Superintendent of Police Naveen Chand has been suspended, District Collector Sai Prasad and Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Anantapur range) A V Narayana shifted in the wake of the October 1 Naxal attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The Andhra Pradesh government has also asked retired Uttar Pradesh director-general of police Prakash Singh to probe the lapses that led to the attack and suggest measures to beef up the chief minister's security.
Singh had also served in the Border Security Force and has vast experience in anti-insurgency operations in the Northeast. He has been told to submit his report within two months.
Also, a Special Investigation Team, headed by a senior IPS officer D T Naik, would specifically probe Wednesday's attack on the chief minister.
Home Minister T Devender Goud told mediapersons that the government had taken these decisions based on a preliminary investigation into the blast triggered by the People's War group of Naxalites. The minister also suspended Sub-inspector Ramanaiah for his failure to detect the landmines on the route taken by the chief minister's convoy.
The state government's security advisor S Subramanyam is also conducting a probe into the attack. On Friday, he visited the scene of the blast near Tirupati and later held a series of meetings with CID, district and police officials.
He told mediapersons that he was on a fact-finding, not a fault-finding mission. Expressing satisfaction with the security drill undertaken by the police to sanitise the route taken by the chief minister's convoy on October 1, he said the cops failed to detect the Claymore mines on the route as the equipment used for detecting explosives was not sophisticated enough.
He will submit 'a comprehensive report' on the attack within four days.
Besides the chief minister, Information Technology Minister B Gopalakrishna Reddy and Telugu Desam Party MLAs Ch Krishnamurthy and R Rajasekhar Reddy were injured in the attack.
