The police booked a criminal case against the father and grandmother of a baby girl after a DNA test in a child swapping case disproved their complaint lodged a month ago.
It all began on May 5 when a pregnant woman J Rajeshwari, resident of Tadicherla village in Karimnagar district, was admitted to the Samata Hospital in Godavarikhani.
On May 6, the doctors performed a Caesarean operation. As the delivery was premature, the baby was shifted placed in an incubator.
On May 10, Rajeshwari's husband J Rajaiah lodged a complaint with the Godavarikhani One Town police that the hospital authorities swapped their male child with a female one.
The police shifted the baby girl to Nilofer Hospital in Hyderabad for treatment as well as a DNA test.
On the directive of Godavarikhani First Class Judicial Magistrate Vasanth Kumar, the police collected blood samples of the baby girl and the parents and sent them to the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics in Hyderabad.
On Saturday, the magistrate revealed the result of the test, which stated that Rajeshwari and Rajaiah were her biological parents.
As Rajaiah's allegations turned out to be false, the police have registered a case against him and his mother Mallamma under section 182 of the Indian Penal Code for lodging a false complaint with the intention of extorting money from the hospital.
The police said that the child's mother Rajeshwari was ready to accept the baby on the very first day, but Rajaiah and Mallamma prevailed over her and lodged a fake complaint.
The police handed the baby over to her parents in the presence of the magistrate.
