In yet another derailment, the engine and a bogie of the Guntur-Hubli passenger train on Monday jumped the tracks near Gadag in north Karnataka.
Divisional Manager (Hubli) of the South Western Railway P Rajagopalan said none of the passengers were hurt. The train had 11 coaches.
Stranded passengers were taken to Hubli by another train and also by road.
Railway sources said the incident occurred around 0400 IST between Hulkoti and Annigeri railway stations, some 50km from Hubli, soon after the 303 Guntur-Hubli Passenger had left the Gadag Railway Station.
The engine and a rear coach - not the bogie that followed the engine - jumped the tracks and came to a standstill.
It was not clear how the engine and a rear coach derailed while those in between remained intact, railway sources said.
Railway sources said on Monday night that the rail track on the Hubli-Gadag section of the SWR was restored at 1800 IST.
All trains on this section had started running according to schedule, SWR sources said in Hubli.
In another incident on Monday, 47 persons were injured when the Jammu-bound Amarnath Express hit a truck at an unmanned crossing 7km outside Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
