Railway Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday suspended six officials following the derailment of the Warangal-bound Golconda Express in Andhra Pradesh, which resulted in the death of at least 18 people.
The officials were responsible for smooth running of trains, a railway ministry spokesperson said in New Delhi.
According to South Central Railway (SCR) sources, the suspended officials include Assistant Engineer (Warangal) R V Devendra Kumar, Permanent Way Inspector (Warangal) D N Reddy, Assistant Electrical Engineer (loco shed, Vijayawada) Manjit Singh, and Senior Section Engineer (electrical loco shed, Vijayawada) D Choka Lingam.
They were punished on charges of dereliction of duty pending an inquiry by the safety commissioner, South Central Railways, he said.
