A Maharashtra home department report has given a clean chit to Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma in connection with the initial goof-ups in the investigations into the Rs 3,500 crore fake stamp-paper racket.
But the report recommended action ranging from a reprimand to suspension against 7 officers.
They are P R Deshmukh, Investigating Officer; Jay Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pune; M C Mulani, Assistant Commissioner of Police; Kishor Jadhav, DCP, Zone I, Pune; Vasant Koregaonkar, DCP, Pune City; S M Mushrif, Additional CP, Crime, Pune; Mahesh Gowri, Joint CP, Pune City.
Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal divulged the contents of report, which considered findings of the special investigation team led by Deputy Inspector General S K Jaiswal and comments of Director General of Police Subhash Malhotra, at a press conference in Mumbai on Thursday.
The report has recommended suspension of Deshmukh and Mulani, Bhujbal said.
The report said Sharma, the then police commissioner of Pune, where the racket was unravelled, cannot be held responsible for any specific acts of commission or omission on the part of investigating officer and other supervising officers.
Bhujbal said he has asked the DGP to seek explanations from officers who face suspension in the interest of fairness and justice.
