The Maharashtra government has suggested some alternate sites to batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar as the plot sought by him in suburban Bandra to construct a bungalow is reserved for those who have lost their homes to government projects.

The piece of land, in which Sachin has evinced interest, also falls under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), official sources said.

"Yes, Sachin had requested that reservation on a particular plot in Bandra be lifted. But, I suggested some alternate sites," Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Wednesday told reporters in Mumbai.

"Sachin is the pride of the country and we do not want him to face any public interest litigation," he explained.

Tendulkar had made the request to the chief minister at a recent meeting to discuss the allocation of more land to the Mumbai Cricket Association for a stadium in the Bandra-Kurla area, sources added.
