Three excise officials were killed in a landmine blast triggered by outlawed People's War Naxalites in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday morning.
State police spokesman Shujath Ali told rediff.com on Thursday afternoon that the incident occurred in Nallamala forests near Butchaiahgarinagari village in Bukkapatnam block, about 400 km south of Hyderabad.
An excise party was proceeding in a jeep from Bukkapatnam to Duppampalli village to conduct a raid on illicit liquor distillers around 9.30 am when a landmine went off reducing the jeep into a mangled mass of steel.
The driver and two excise constables died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Ramakrishna, Dowla and Shankar.
The police said the Naxalites might have triggered the blast mistaking the excise officials for police personnel.
