Nagappa's family welcome negotiations
move, but who will be the emissary?

The decision of the Karnataka government to suspend STF operations against sandalwood smuggler Veerappan and go in for negotiations has been welcomed by abducted ex-minister H Nagappa's family.

But now the question is - Who will be the emissary?

Nagappa's wife Parimala was non-committal on the issue. "It would be better if the government adopts the method that was followed during (Kannada actor) Rajakumar's abduction," she said vaguely.

Veerappan had demanded that Kolluthur Mani be sent to negotiate with him.

However, the state government is adamant on not sending Mani as an emissary as he is serving a prison sentence. Releasing him would mean having to tackle several legal issues.

Nevertheless, it is trying to enlist his help to secure Nagappa's release, sources said.
