STF slows down hunt for Veerappan

The STF had previously launched an all out effort to trap the brigand after receiving a tip-off on his location.

The STF has nearly 3,000 personnel, including Central Reserve Police Force personnel and 150 National Security Guard commandos.

The slowdown in the STF operations comes a day after Nagappa's wife, Parimala, threatened to go on a hunger strike from Friday if the government did not halt combing operations, which, she feared, would endanger her husband's life.

Though the government had stated that its first priority was to secure Nagappa's release, it had simultaneously asked the STF to continue combing operations.

Meanwhile, reports said that a secret mission to secure the release of Nagappa was already underway in the jungles. However, no official comment was available.
