Nagappa's wife threatens
to fast unto death

With another day passing without any news of the release of her abducted husband H Nagappa, a frantic Parimala has threatened to launch a fast unto death from September 13 demanding early negotiations with sandalwood smuggler Veerappan.

Expressing her anguish over the government's failure to get Nagappa released even 18 days after his abduction, she said, "I have no other way now. The government has failed to address my family's concerns and that of his supporters."

"We want the government to end the STF's operations and start negotiations with Veerappan. If his (Nagappa's) release is not secured within 48 hours, we will launch a fast unto death."

"We want the government to adopt the methods that were used when (Kannada actor) Rajakumar was abducted," she told rediff.com at her residence in Kamagere.

"We want to make it clear that we are for Veerappan's arrest, but at the same time the safety of my husband is important," Parimala said pointing out that the brigand has threatened to kill Nagappa if the STF continued its operations against his gang.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister S M Krishna told a delegation of politicians from Chamarajnagar and Mysore districts, which met him on Wednesday in Bangalore, that, under the present circumstances, it was not wise to stop STF operations.

The delegation was led by Union minister Srinivasa Prasad.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the STF has arrested four persons from a village near Kamagere for allegedly giving information to Veerappan about Nagappa's movements.
