Terrorists behind Qasim Nagar massacre nabbed

Seven Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorists, who were involved in masterminding the Qasim Nagar massacre of 32 people, have been arrested, a senior police official said on Friday.

They were also involved in eight other militancy-related incidents in which at least 31 people were killed, Senior Superintendent of Police Farooq Khan said in Jammu.

Of the two terrorists who had attacked the Qasim Nagar colony on July 13, one was killed in an encounter with security forces on August 2 and the other arrested the next day, he said.

Following the leads provided by the arrested terrorist, the police nabbed the seven men, recruited by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence.

He said one Abu Umar, in consultation with a senior functionary of the outfit, Master Kabir of Surankote area in Poonch district, started giving shape to the ISI plan in the first week of July.

Two young Pakistani terrorists, Mohammed Adnan alias Abu Dujana and Mohammed Abdullah alias Abu Talah, were despatched to Jammu along with four companions on July 11, he said.

The next day, the two terrorists reached Jammu via Surankote and were provided with two haversacks containing two AK-56 rifles, ten magazines and nine hand grenades, Khan said.

The duo, after concealing the weapons in a forest, came to Rajiv Nagar/Qasim Nagar, which was identified as their target by one Altaf Shah on the directions of Master Kabir.

On the evening of July 13, they struck the locality, lobbing grenades and firing on the inhabitants.

One of them was shot dead on August 2, while the other, Talah, was held the next day.

"As far as the Qasim Nagar massacre is concerned, the investigation has been completed in all respects and only legal formalities are to be completed," the SSP said.

The key persons arrested were Master Kabir, Altaf Hussain Shah, Maroof Khan, SPP Shabir Ahmed, Munir Hussain and his son Sarfraz, and Mehmood Ahmed, he said.

They had confessed to killing 31 other people, he said.
