Nagappa's bodyguards suspended for dereliction of duty

Two police constables who were posted as bodyguards of the former Karnataka minister H Nagappa, abducted by Veerappan, were suspended on Wednesday for 'failure to discharge their duty'.

A senior police officer had conducted an inquiry and submitted a report few days ago, blaming Linge Gowda and Rajanna for dereliction of duty. One constable was absent when Veerappan struck.

Meanwhile, the Mysore bandh called by the opposition parties and other associations to pressurise the government to resolve the abduction crisis passed off peacefully on Tuesday without any untoward incident.

Siddaramaiah, former deputy chief minister of Karnataka and the Janata Dal leader, called upon the government to suspend the STF operations and clear the deck for negotiations with the forest brigand.

S R Bommai, former chief minister, also demanded the government to initiate talks with Veerappan for the release of Nagappa.
