Polling station for just 11 voters in Zanskar constituency

A polling station in Zanskar constituency has been set up for just 11 voters, the lowest number at any polling station in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on Wednesday.

Another polling station, for just 32 voters, has been set up in Kargil assembly segment, they said.

Out of the 219 polling stations in the two constituencies, which will go to polls in the first phase on September 16, eleven are exclusively for women, the sources said.

Poll arrangements in the two constituencies were on Wednesday reviewed by Chief Secretary I S Malhi and Chief Electoral Officer Pramod Jain at a meeting with the district administration in Kargil.

The district election officer said arrangements have been made to ensure smooth, free and transparent conduct of the elections.

He said 95 per cent voters of the district have been trained to operate the electronic voting machines.

Twenty-eight polling stations have been specified as sensitive and 12 as hypersensitive, he added.
