EC asks UP govt to recover flight charges from minister

The Election Commission has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to recover flight charges from Forest Minister Jaiveer Singh for flying BSP supremo Kanshi Ram to Jammu and Kashmir in a state aircraft to campaign for the polls in violation of the model code of conduct.

J&K Deputy Chief Electoral Officer B S Jamwal on Wednesday said the commission gave this instruction following Kanshi Ram's recent visit to Jammu to campaign for his candidates in the first phase of polls on September 16.

The EC has requested politicians and authorities to strictly adhere to the model code of conduct.

On Monday, it had ordered the transfer of three sub-divisional police officers and seven Station House Officers who were posted at one place for four years or more.
