Kolathur Mani's bail application rejected

Sadananda R in Chamarajnagar

A local Karnataka court on Tuesday evening rejected the bail application filed on behalf of Tamil activist Kolathur Mani, who is being demanded as an emissary by forest brigand Veerappan to negotiate the release of Janata Dal-United leader H Nagappa.

The bail application of Mani, arrested on charge of allegedly supplying explosives to Veerappan, was opposed by the public prosecutor in the second additional sessions court in Mysore.

In the third cassette, Veerappan had demanded Mani and Kollegal taluk JD-U leader Mahadevasway as emissaries to talk to him to secure the release of Nagappa who is being held hostage by him for the last 66 days.

The court informed Mani's counsel, T Prakash, that it had no jurisdiction to grant a bail in the case.

The court directed Mani's counsel to file a fresh bail petition in Kollegal magistrate's court. The case is booked by Ramapura police station in Kollegal block, which comes under Kollegal munsif court's jurisdiction.

Mani had managed to get bail in one case from the sessions court of Mysore on Friday last week. With the rejection of this bail plea, Mani has still four more cases pending against him.

Prakash told rediff.com that he would file a fresh petition in the Kollegal court shortly. Two more bail petitions are still to come up for hearing in Karnataka high court. They are expected to come up for hearing on November 4.
