Opposition parties to boycott Krishna's all-party meet

Sadananda R in Chamarajanagar

The opposition parties of Karnataka on Saturday evening decided to boycott the all-party meeting on the Cauvery issue convened by Chief Minister S M Krishna for Sunday afternoon.

They decided to wait till October 28, when the Supreme Court will pronounce its judgment on the contempt case filed by Tamil Nadu against the state for not releasing Cauvery water.

They also accused Krishna of attempting to derive political mileage out of the Cauvery issue by 'misusing the support of the farmers'.

Opposition parties and Krishna have been at loggerheads ever since the chief minister decided to go on an 'unilateral' padayatra from Bangalore to Krishna Raja Sagar dam in Mandya, brushing aside the concerns of the opposition parties.

Though Krishna claimed his padayatra was an attempt to pacify the agitating farmers and assure them of his government's support, the opposition parties alleged it was a ploy to extract political mileage.
