CEC meets Gujarat electoral officer

Shahid K Abbas in New Delhi

Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh reviewed poll arrangements in Gujarat with state Chief Election Officer Gurucharan Singh and the Union Home Secretary N Gopalaswami in the capital on Wednesday.

"The discussions were general in nature relating to poll arrangements. A whole lot of issues have to be decided before elections in Gujarat are held," an Election Commission official told rediff.com.

The official added that the issue of poll preparedness was discussed with Singh and the availability of central security forces with Gopalaswami.

The meeting is significant because the commission had recently sought the opinion of the state for holding elections in December.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been vehemently demanding early polls in Gujarat, has also started gearing up the party's poll machinery.
