Sadly, the home minister in his reply to the debate in Lok Sabha (on Monday) failed to disapprove of this most dangerous trend," she said.

Addressing a general body meeting of the Congress Parliamentary party in New Delhi, Gandhi, while emphasising the importance of the Gujarat assembly elections, said she was confident that the state would reject the forces that "have done so much to damage its fair name, its legacy of religious tolerance and understanding".

She said economic success cannot be achieved if societies are polarised and subjected to continuous violence.
