Ambassadors of European Union countries stayed out of the oath taking ceremony of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who was sworn in on Saturday for a fresh five-year term in office.
India's charge de affairs Sudhir Vyas and US Ambassador Nancy Powel, as also diplomats of some other countries, attended the ceremony.
There was no official word on why EU diplomats stayed out the ceremony, but their move appeared hardly surprising, considering the strong stand taken by the EU against Musharraf's referendum early this year and his subsequent constitutional amendments.
The European Union had dispatched its biggest-ever poll monitors delegation to observe Pakistan elections. An EU report had described the polls as seriously flawed.
