Acting on a Supreme Court direction, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday withdrew the remarks she has made against the prime minister and the Cauvery River Authority headed by him in a letter dated November 5.
Jayalalithaa said she had no intention to make 'insinuations' against the prime minister or the CRA as observed by the Supreme Court. "My remarks were intended only to improve the conditions of the farmers of Tamil Nadu," she said.
The chief minister urged the prime minister to treat her comments "as withdrawn."
She said she had the greatest respect for the prime minister and had full confidence in him and in the CRA.
While hearing Tamil Nadu's twin contempt petitions against Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna and Irrigation Minister H K Patil, the Supreme Court had directed Jayalalitha to withdraw the remarks she had made against the prime minister and the CRA.
