Laloo accuses Modi of inciting communal tension

Accusing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of inciting communal tension in the state, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Prasad Yadav urged the Election Commission on Tuesday to debar him from contesting the assembly election. He also sought Modi's immediate arrest.

"Modi is making inflammatory statements detrimental to peace and communal harmony in the riot-hit state," the former Bihar chief minister told reporters in New Delhi. "The EC should debar him from contesting the elections for violating the model code of conduct."

"Modi should be put behind bars immediately for disturbing the peace in the riot-affected state," Yadav said.

He called on all secular parties to unite and support the Congress in defeating the 'communal BJP' in the state.

Yadav will embark on an intensive campaign in Gujarat to mobilise support for the Congress.
