Karnataka farmers to call off protests
if Krishna compensates them

Farmers would withdraw agitation if the Karnataka government compensates them for the crops that fail due to release of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu, Cauvery River Protection Committee president G Made Gowda said on Monday.

Speaking to journalists in Mandya district, Gowda said even the British had not treated the farmers the way Chief Minister S M Krishna did.

"Krishna has to convince the farmers that the government has released water because there is enough of it in reservoirs... The chief minister has to come out with a statement assuring farmers that water will be available for their standing crops. Instead of this, Krishna is trying to instil fear and trying to silence them," Gowda said.

"No one can crush our rightful agitation. We are fighting for our rights," said Made Gowda.

Road traffic between Mysore and Bangalore was opened on Monday. But railway services remained closed.
