Karnataka rejects Veerappan's demand
to send minister as emissary

Karnataka on Monday rejected Veerappan's demand to send state minister Raju Gowda as an emissary to end the Nagappa hostage crisis.

"We have decided not to send any minister or legislator as emissaries for any reason whatsoever," Information Minister Kagodu Thimappa said after a Cabinet meeting in Bangalore.

Breaking his month-long silence, the bandit had on Sunday sent a fourth tape repeating his demand to send Tamil activist Kolathur Mani or Gowda as emissary.

Veerappan also rejected the offer of Janata Dal-United leader Mahadevaswamy to come to the forest alone and negotiate the release of Nagappa.
